Features at glance

  • A handmade handle using cork with a finger grip
  • Stainless Sandvik 12c27 steel blade
  • Each knife includes a custom full grain leather sheath
  • Dimensions: Blade 123 mm / 4.8 inches Handle 130 mm / 5.12 inches
  • Weight: 4.5 oz total / 2.5 oz knife only

First things first, let’s take a close look on the design. This knife is fitted with stainless Sandvik steel blade which is on the shorter side with its 4.8 inches. Therefore it’s more suitable for smaller fish such as panfish or small bass. When it comes to the design of the blade, it can be said that it is a traditional narrow straight blade with pointed slightly curving tip. There is a logo of the Helle company on one side of the blade. As for other properties, the blade is 1.3 mm thick and what’s somewhat surprising is the stiffness. It is much more rigid than traditional filleters. It’s up to you to decide whether you’d missing flexibility or not. We had no issue with the knife.

The handle is made of cork wood and therefore every single knife will have uniquely grained handle. There’s a small finger grip which could be a little bit more rounded. Thanks to the material used for the handle and lightness of the whole knife, it would most likely float in the water.

As almost all Helle knives, the Hellefisk will arrive at your doorstep together with a custom made sheath. It is made of high quality leather and has a unique grain to it.

Customer ratings

The Helle Hellefisk fillet knife enjoys thoroughly positive reviews in knife store. One of the reviewers praised the knife for its sharpness and excellent build quality and we have to agree with that.

All in all, the Hellefisk is an excellent choice for anyone who isn’t afraid to spend a bit as the Helle knives are all on the pricier side. If you are fishing mainly larger fish, you’d have to look for another knife, because the Hellefisk would most likely be too short for efficient cleaning.
